You can browse most of Range without giving us anything. We collect data only when you take one of these actions:
- Take the quiz. We store your answers, the profile we build from them, and a random token that lets you reopen your result.
- Sign up for job alerts. We store your email address and confirmation status. If you sign up from a quiz result, we also store that the result requested alerts.
- Join the early-access list. We store your email address separately from job alerts so we can tell you when the next version opens.
- Use the contact form. We send your name, email address, and message to Range so we can reply.
- Visit any page. Our servers and analytics providers receive page and event details, the referring link, browser details, your IP address, and anonymous identifiers. They may derive a rough location from your IP address.
We do not ask for government IDs, financial details, health data, or other sensitive personal information.
How we use it
We use this information to run Range, create and share your result, send requested emails, answer messages, understand usage, and protect the service.
Some result content is written using relevant quiz answers, profile details, and job details sent to Anthropic's text-generation service. We do not send your name or email address in those requests.
Who sees it
Outside services help with hosting and storage, email delivery, analytics, personalized text, and error monitoring. Each receives only the information it needs:
- Hosting and storage: quiz answers, results, email addresses you provide, and routine server logs.
- Email delivery: recipient addresses and the contents of emails sent by Range.
- Analytics: page views, clicks, referring pages, anonymous identifiers, browser details, and IP-derived information. Our event code does not send email addresses, result tokens, contact messages, or quiz answer text.
- Personalized text: quiz answers, profile details, and job details needed for result content, not your name or email.
- Error monitoring: technical fault reports. Our reporting code removes result tokens and is designed not to send your email address, IP address, or quiz answers.
We do not sell your data or share it with advertisers.
Links, storage, and cookies
Your result has a private link. Anyone with that link can open it, so share it only when you want to. The browser tab where you took the quiz holds an owner token for attaching an email, submitting follow-up answers, and opening owner-only details. Closing the tab or clearing browser storage can remove that access.
Range uses local and session storage to save quiz progress and recent result access. First-party cookies and analytics storage may remember an anonymous browser, quiz completion, or matched pattern. We do not use third-party advertising cookies.
How long we keep it
We keep quiz results and attached email addresses while the feature remains available so you can return to them. We keep email signups until you unsubscribe or ask us to remove them. Contact messages, service logs, and analytics events are kept only as long as reasonably needed to run Range, respond to requests, protect the service, and meet legal obligations.
Your choices
Depending on where you live, privacy law may give you rights to:
- See what data we hold about you, and get a copy to take elsewhere.
- Correct anything that is wrong.
- Delete your quiz result, an email signup, or your contact-form message.
- Object to or limit how we use your data, and withdraw any consent you gave.
- Unsubscribe from any of our emails. Every list email also has a one-click unsubscribe link at the bottom.
You can email us to make a request. We will verify and respond as required by the law that applies to you. Making a privacy request will not change how we treat you.
Where required, we use consent for marketing email and may rely on legitimate interests to operate and secure Range. Other processing may be needed to provide a requested feature or meet a legal obligation. In California, we do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. You may contact your local privacy authority if we cannot resolve a concern.
Other details
Range is built for working adults. It is not intended for children, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 16. If you think a child has sent us their details, email us and we will delete them.
Range and the services above run on infrastructure in the United States and may process data in other countries, subject to their privacy terms and applicable law. We use reasonable safeguards, including encrypted connections and restricted administrative access. No system is completely secure.
If the way we handle your data changes in a meaningful way, we will update this page and its date. The current version is the one that applies.
